Editorial Standards

How we get it right.

Invest with Prudie is about money, which means being wrong here has real consequences for real people. That raises the bar. These are the standards every guide, lesson, and answer on this site is held to. If we ever fall short of them, tell us and we will fix it.

We verify before we publish

Every factual claim is checked against a primary source before it goes live. Tax figures, contribution limits, and IRS rules are confirmed against the current year's official guidance, not last year's memory. Rules that change, like SECURE 2.0 provisions, inherited-account timelines, and the pro-rata rule, are re-checked at the time of writing rather than assumed. If a number is time-sensitive, we confirm it is still current before we publish it.

We test our own logic

Before a guide is published, we argue against it. We take the strongest version of the opposing view and see whether the advice still holds. If it does not survive that test, it does not get published. This is why you will rarely find a one-size-fits-all answer here: the honest answer usually depends on your situation, and we say so.

We show our sources

Where a claim rests on data or research, we point to it: the IRS, the SEC, government data, or peer-reviewed studies rather than secondhand summaries. The learning design behind the course is grounded in published research, which you can read about on The Science page. When we cite a figure, we want you to be able to check it yourself. That is the whole point.

We flag uncertainty instead of hiding it

Some questions do not have a settled answer, and pretending otherwise is how people get hurt. When the evidence is mixed, when a rule has an exception, or when the right move depends on details we cannot see, we say so plainly rather than projecting false confidence.

We are independent

We do not accept payment to recommend any brokerage, fund, app, or product, and no company can pay to appear in our guides or to change what we say. When we mention a specific product, it is because it genuinely fits the point, not because of any arrangement. Invest with Prudie earns money from its own subscription, and from nothing else.

We are educators, not advisors

Everything here is educational and general. It is not personalized financial, tax, or legal advice, and it cannot account for your specific circumstances. For decisions that turn on your situation, we point you to a qualified, fee-only fiduciary. We would rather send you to the right person than pretend to be one.

We correct our mistakes

When we get something wrong, we fix it and note when a guide was last reviewed or updated. Money rules change, and a guide that was accurate last year may not be this year, so we revisit our most important pieces to keep them current.
